Cases with well-functioning clinical relationships rarely get air time in case consultation or supervision--it’s usually when we are struggling in the clinical system. In other words, couples therapy can be hard but if the three-way working system is going smooth, it’s not as likely you’ll seek consult time or hear about the cases from your peers.  But many consults focus on the couple and not on the problems in the clinical system that includes the therapist.  This is where Family FIRO assessment can pay off by focusing on the inclusion issues in the stuck three-person system. Bill ends this video with the thought that it’s difficult to suggest that your colleague has a role in their own frustrating case, so we focus only on the couple.
