"Problem solving" can be interpreted in many ways in therapy land.
This lesson really nails down what Bill means.
Problem solving, a core part of every session in The Doherty Approach, emerges from Scene-It via identifying the interaction patterns the spouses are co-creating. With a tight focus on both giving us verbal buy-in for their contribution, it gives us permission to help both shift their own roles.
Put another way, every session involves both partners pondering new ways to change their side of the pattern or analyzing attempts made to change their interaction from their last therapy session.
In this clip, at Minute 18, Bill begins to create the Scene-It for a live couple. It goes on for some length as you see him dive in and out of abstract feelings, context and actual thoughts, words and feelings in the micro-moments of two exchanges.
Bill will answer Q&As the second Friday of every month.
