In the video we reinforce that we’re working hard to be able to summarize what we’re hearing, tied to their goals, and what the therapy work would look like for them. The Doherty Approach, being very collaborative, is always paying attention to traction, so that by the end of the first session, we expect to get a full go ahead for our sense of client’s issues and shape of the therapy to come.  If there is any pushback or lack of engagement, we address those as traction struggles in that session or ask if there can be a second session to address getting in synch.  We never overwhelm clients with words and then accept their cautious agreement.
